About Us

The Studio Wrestling website is a part of the Mid-Atlantic Gateway family of websites and is dedicated to the history of pro-wrestling in the television studios of Jim Crockett Promotions from the late 1950s through the early 1980s.

This site is published by Dick Bourne, who along with David Chappell published the Mid-Atlantic Gateway website. Bourne is the proud recipient of the 2022 James C. Melby Award for journalism from the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame.  He is also a member of the NWA Wrestling Legends Hall of Heroes Class of 2016.

This website collects memories and memorabilia related to the following:

PRIMARY

(1) The television studios that hosted Jim Crockett Promotions television tapings from the 1950s through the 1980s.
(2) The broadcasters and other on-air talent for Jim Crockett Promotions that appeared or whose voices you heard on these programs during this same time frame.
(3) The local promoters for Jim Crockett Promotions during the 1970s and 1970s.

SECONDARY
(4) Other studio or small venue wrestling programs in other territories during the territory era.
(5) TV wrestling broadcasters from all other promotions in the United States during the territory era.

Some of the posts here will be long-form articles. Some will be simple postings of memorabilia such as newspaper clippings, photos, sound files, etc.

We hope you enjoy this little slice of wrestling history and will visit here frequently.
